Deposit Limits and Self-Exclusion: Taking Control of Your Play

Every licensed casino is required to offer tools that help you stay in control of your spending and time. Here’s what’s available and how to use it.

Deposit Limits

You can set a daily, weekly or monthly cap on how much you’re able to deposit. Once the limit is reached, further deposits are blocked until the period resets. Lowering a limit usually takes effect immediately; raising it typically has a 24-48 hour cooling-off period, by design, so it can’t be adjusted impulsively.

Loss Limits and Wager Limits

Similar to deposit limits, but based on how much you lose or wager in a given period rather than how much you deposit. These offer an additional layer of control, particularly useful if you tend to redeposit frequently within the same session.

Reality Checks

A pop-up reminder, usually every 30-60 minutes, showing how long you’ve been playing and your current win/loss balance for the session. It’s a simple nudge to stay aware of time passing, which is easy to lose track of during play.

Self-Exclusion

Allows you to lock yourself out of an account for a fixed period (commonly 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, or longer) or permanently. During self-exclusion, the operator cannot accept deposits or send you marketing material. Most regulated markets also offer multi-operator self-exclusion schemes that block you from signing up to new sites, not just your existing account.

Where to Find These Tools

Look under “Responsible Gambling,” “Account Settings” or “My Limits” in your casino account. If you can’t find them within a couple of clicks, that’s a red flag about the operator’s commitment to player protection.
